There’s a lot of noise out there about lymphatic drainage, so let’s clear a few things up.
Myth: It’s just a fancy massage.
Fact: It’s not. Traditional massage works on muscle. ALT works on an entirely different system, using light, specific movements that follow lymphatic pathways rather than muscle tissue.
Myth: If it doesn’t hurt, it’s not working.
Fact: This one trips people up constantly. A lot of your lymphatic vessels sit close to the surface, and too much pressure can actually collapse them instead of stimulating flow. ALT is gentle with the pressure but the engineering of the XP2 machine allows it to penetrate and get the lymph flowing much deeper within the body.
Myth: You only need this after surgery.
Fact: Post-surgical recovery is common, but it’s far from the only reason people come to me. A lot of clients are just dealing with everyday bloating, pain, fatigue, experiencing puffiness or feeling stuck as well as needing much deeper detox support.
Myth: It’s purely cosmetic, like something you’d do for appearance’s sake.
Fact: There’s a cosmetic side, sure, things like scar tissue and skin texture can improve as well as that puffy face feeling. But the deeper value is in what it does for your immune system, your chronic inflammation, and your ability to recover. It’s function first, appearance second.
Myth: This has nothing to do with stress or sleep.
Fact: It actually has a lot to do with both. Lymphatic work supports the parasympathetic side of your nervous system, the part responsible for rest and recovery, while calming the sympathetic, or fight-or-flight, side. That’s why clients often notice better sleep and lower stress alongside the physical changes.
Myth: It’s just a wellness trend.
Fact: Your lymphatic system is a documented, essential part of your physiology. It handles immune function and waste removal for your entire body. Supporting it isn’t trendy. It’s just supporting a system you already have. But why we are starting to see it become more popular is because this valuable and extremely important system has not been a source of deeper studies like other systems of the body. Think about it there is no measure to gauge it like your blood pressure and they are not extracting its fluid to test it….yet. So as more knowledge and understanding has started to emerge around the importance of the lymphatic system on top of people noticing the shifts their bodies make when they make it a priority we will see the shift in society recommending we all take care of and support our lymphatic flow.
Myth: Results happen overnight.
Fact: Like most real healing, this builds over time. Many clients feel a difference after one session, but consistency is where the lasting change happens. Think it didn’t take one thing or one day to create the body’s current state so it often takes more to help to support the body’s shift into a new way of being.
If you’ve been on the fence because of something you read online, I’d rather you reach out and ask directly. We work with clients here in Greenville, South Carolina, and are always happy to talk through what’s fact and what’s noise and how ALT may support you with your health needs and goals.
